Goat unable to walk

291 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
Coyotes busted into my barn about a week ago and go my girls. One lived, fought off infection and is doing awesome. Except they messed with her legs so much and I think they got some tendons or something. She wants so badly to walk but lacks the strength in her legs. I help her stand up and hold her up for about 10 minutes a couple times a day and stretch and move her legs. What else can I be doing? We don’t have any goat vets out here that will see her due to COVID.

Can you put her in a sling? I'm so sorry that happened to your goats.

I’ve been trying to come up with a sort of sling, I’ve been trying to get one of the guys to bring me some saw horses to make something for her.

Poor mama. I'm so sorry, I can't imagine!!
You can use a large towel as a sling. Bring up all four corners together to help support her. Spread the towel from behind front legs to infront of backlegs for best support. Bring her up and support her..get her walking..when she is ready to stop..let her rest..repeat every few hours. Keep her up longer and longer as she is able.
Did she get a tetanus antitoxin shot? If not I would do that asap. Even if she was UTD on cd&t.
