Goat with injured leg and limping

Hi,

I just had a goat injure her back right leg and is now limping on it. There is no major swelling, and she is still eating like normal and moving around, but favoring her left leg. She obviously injured it, but I don't think it is broken since she doesn't seem to be in too much pain. She limps along, and only uses her right leg to step forward like a quick hop. When should I call the vet? Should I wait it out and see?

Do you know how she injured it? Have you checked her hoof?

Yes, they were running around and she hooked it on a cut tree stump :( Kind of like you would get it stuck in a pallet...grrr
I would say that if there is no major swelling, it is still in its natural alignment, and there is no broken skin then monitor it. I'm sure it's going to be tender for a couple of days. If there is no improvement after a couple of days, I'd call a vet just to check her out.

I'd monitor and give Banamine.

Ok. I have baby aspirin. Can I give that instead?
Yes, I've given baby aspirin....it's not as strong as banamine though. one per 10 lbs of weight is what I usually dose.
How is the goat today? They are very resilient criters. Maybe check her hip too. Sometimes we focus on what we see that we forget about what we dont see. Rotate her hip joint a little too. But if there is no swelling, heat or open wound you should just monitor it for a day or so.

She is still limping and lying around more than usual. She has come out to pasture for a walk with us today. She is still eating, but her leg hasn't improved yet. I saw the incident. She jumped onto an old apple tree stump that was cut down in their pen, and got her leg stuck in the crook where the trunk branched, and fell down with her leg stuck. We cut off that crook today....grrr. Her leg looks visually fine from what I can see and feel. I did think about her straining in the the hip. We think it is a strain or a sprain. Poor girl. She is such a lively girl, and it's tough to see her limping around when she is usually running hot laps with her herd mate :(

I also am apprehensive to call the local vet since the last time one of the goats had a swollen leg and a limp from a bee sting she told me I might need to put them down if it is broken and gets infected. Lol. My vet definitely has a way of exacerbating problems...
:(

Hope things get better soon.
