So my dad and brothers were working on the new deck for my grandmother (she lives with us in her own suite) and the deck is near my goats.

I let the goats out to eat the acorns and was standing there watching to make sure they didn't 1) get onto the grass - just fertilized, my mom NEVER does that no idea WHY 2) so they didn't get in the way of the deck building.

Anyway my mom brought out chest nuts that had some bugs in them earlier (perfectly safe for the goats though). And she seemed to enjoy being out there with them and watching them eat the nuts. NOT once did she mention "which ones are leaving, you are still selling misty and Flicka right? anyone interested in these two?" or anything like that!

I was stunned because she ALWAYS says something about me selling them when she is around the goats. So maybe I am making progress in the chance of keeping them!

Then my grandmother said to my mom "so what would you do if you didn't have the animals anymore?" (talking about all the animals, chickens, goats, dogs, cats etc) My mom - "I would get more"

Now that was INTERESTING! my dad always told me my mom really liked the animals but I had a hard time believing that if they were all to suddenly leave she wouldn't be relieved in a way, miss the fresh eggs yes but that would be it. Now I had her admitting it with her own mouth!

I think it's just hard for some people to admit how much they like animals. I married a man who didn't even really want me to get one cat. Now I have a house full of animals and a pasture full of animals and he loves them all. They just have a way of winning people over if they are around them enough. Hope you do end up getting to keep all your girls. You've done so much for Misty & Flicka it'd be nice for them to be able to stay with you.

I think I need to give some background to those who don't know the situation.

My mom is the one who started me with goats. She doesn't mind the goats and yes she does help me with the birthings. No problems there.

It is with these two goats I have, Misty and Flicka and a deal I made with her back in June. And yes samall I think after everything it makes it so much harder to part with them.

I graduated Cosmetology school and for that my mom said I could get another doe But that was after we discussed me selling all the kids (as planned) and selling my two rescue does Misty and Flicka (as planned). So I bought my new doe in August but the sale for M&F fell through. During that time I fell in love with both of them and now I am petitioning her to let me keep them.

Teach me to not to make a deal over the number of goats I have!
Maybe another deal is in order??? Ooops! You said for us not to tell you to do that!
I hope your mom lets you keep Misty and Flicka (fingers crossed)!

yah I see the value of keeping my word so I kind of need her to release me from it before taking matters in my own hands.
Good for you! You know you could probably get out of this deal (this is after all, your loving mother who doesn't want to watch you hurt). But sticking to it shows great character!

hey Stacey, you could always advertise them for $500 each - then you're hardly likely to sell them

Glad to see that your mother might be warming up to the idea. My mother doesn't like me having animals because i get so hurt if something happens to one. - mum really went through it in the spring when I lost 3 of my then 5 goats!

LW that is part of it. She gets really upset when something goes wrong with my goats and she knows I can concentrate and everything I am doing starts to fall apart. So teh more I have the more chances of illness, injuries etc. So I know she has good reasons.

Between two loving people, a way will be found. I hope it works out for both of you too.
Isn't it thought provoking how your Mom would replace her lost animals, dealing with the pain of loss, but doesn't want to see the same pain for you?
