grain for nigerian dwarfs-

I am currently feeding purina goat chow to does and kids. kids are aprox 7 weeks old now. each doe gets 1 1/4 cup of goat chow and one cup of alfalfa pellets twice a day. also the kids together get 1 cup of goat chow and 1 cup of alfalfa pellets. they also eat some of their moms feed. i dont milk the dams so they are strictly raising kids. free choice orchard/alfalfa hay and minerals. the kids were around 10-12 pounds when weighed a few days ago for toltrazuril prevention.

i am thinking i might want to make my own mixture of grain as this has a lot of corn in it? would that be wise or just stick with this feed? if so any suggestions
also should i have the new owners buy a bag when they pick up their kids?
the does look fine, but they do have dry coat which everyone seems to have. i did have lice last month which i believe i finally got rid of as no one is itching anymore. they are due for copper next week as its been three months so i think that will help.
i also feed my 10 year old doe purina equine senior which seems like a better feed then the goat chow? seems easier to digest?

I don't like the goat chow. Too much molasses and corn! I use the Purina Goat Grower and like that a lot better (still more molasses than I'd like though) and it's an easy one to recommend to new owners when they pick up their kids. Easy to find at the farm supply store and it has ammonium chloride in it so I feel safer recommending it to people who are buying wethers. For my own feeding regime I add things to it depending on the situation (BOSS, barley, rice bran pellets, and/or calf manna.) I think it's easier to make additions to an existing feed than to start completely from scratch, but I know people here do that too!
the only other one i found has the coccidia prevention in it which i didnt want. so thinking that was the grower. but all look when i go again.

Yes, there is a medicated version and a non medicated version of the Grower. I special order the non medicated version from my local feed store.
We’ve started getting a custom mix for our milkers. It’s oats, barley, a little bran, and sunflower seeds. It’s got a little molasses to hold it together. The goats seem to love it.
