We are new to goats having just finished our first year of raising and breeding goats. Right now we have three adult does, a buck that is under a year old, and a doeling just born this month. If I get another buck to breed with my bucks momma and sister would that be the best idea for growing our herd? We sold all but two of our babies this year. The buck we kept and the doeling we are keeping as we lost one of our mommas shortly after birth. There isn’t anyone in our area that is raising pure Nubians for us to trade with. Y’all’s advise would be appreciated.

Adding new DNA to you herd is usually a good idea as long as you are not introducing unwanted traits. A new buck may not get along with your buck. You may want to consider wethering your buck if you are keeping him and don't want him to breed.

Line breeding is okay up to a point but if you are keeping your bucks mom and sister then I would breed to a new buck that will improve your does.
