Our goats are pasture goats. If the grass starts dying out over the winter, is it absolutely necessary to give them hay? I feed them sweet feed as well.

I agree, I'd get them some hay. If you have a place for a round bale, you could get a decent grass hay round bale and let them eat off of that.
We have boer/percentages and we are planning to use round bales of grass hay this year <also some square bales of really good clover/grass hay>. But we're feeding pelleted feed and will be adding in some alfalfa pellets since most all of our goats are pregnant.

Even during the summer when my goats have access to pasture, they get hay. I agree with the others, hay is a must :)
