Hi there, I'm Laurie and I'm a goataholic.

I have ND dairy goats that I am besotted with. I live on a tiny 15 acre farm with my older sister - all the fledglings have left the nest, so we're the two humans here. I have retired now cuz of hiding from the virus. Sis and I are both at risk, so we stay on the farm and enjoy our little haven that we have worked so hard on. We garden, have chickens, ducks and the goats. At one point we raised belted Galloway cattle, and they were great. But they just weren't quite the right scale for 15 acres.

During my younger years of adventure and travel I worked on commercial cow dairies and was a DHIA milk tester in rural NC. I think that is part of what I love about these little dairy goats. I love getting to see the udder of a first freshener. Did the breeding result in an improvement over the dam? How is their production? Their milk is delicious! They are such pleasant personalities too. They've helped us transform brushy over grown areas and heal commercially farmed land. ( I guess I don't need to gush all the reasons I love my goats to you guys.)

I have a lot to learn still. I like reading through the posts here, so much wisdom and collaboration in how advice is given. It's just refreshing to meet people who have taking care of their animals as a priority and have enough left over to be kind online.

Last, ADGA has given me PTSD. Anyone else? Please remind me that this too will pass.

Smiles

Thank you! About those tags ☹ .....another great idea that didn't pan out. I got puppy whelping collars online and they were "too" breakaway for a baby goat. But for a brief moment it was great..dam's name, who they were sold to, or reserved.

Welcome from East Texas!! So glad to have you! I raise Boers (the username definitely doesn’t give that away) and Spanish. I do have a Niggie cross also that I milk and she is spoiled rotten lol. She was a bottle baby and spent her first few weeks in the house getting treated like a human infant.

Hi Laurie!! Welcome- from just a few miles away! I recognized your "chocolate chip cookies" ;-) in the picture. Thanks for sharing a little background.

I hope we can keep in touch IRL...maybe we can have a little goat guild gathering in our area. I know a couple of people, as you probably do too.

I wish we could all reply, “Hi, Laurie,” in unison because we’re all goataholics here and this is pretty much our support group, though unlike other support groups, we don’t discourage the addiction.

Your goats are gorgeous! It’s great to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you and your herd.
