Help, goat isn’t gaining weight

439 Views 20 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
He’s almost a year old now. He’s a fainting goat. You can’t tell too much in this picture but his sides are sunken in. He has a little bit of a belly, but his hips are just sunken. I feed him a lot, make sure he forages. But he never seems to gain any weight. And now, he’s sleeping a lot, distancing himself from the others, walking slow, has eye discharge and a cough, and seems like the life has just been sucked out of him. He’s my best friend, and I can’t lose him. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know. I’m desperate.

Hi, Iam a newish goat mummy too, I have two Pygmy goats, now 3 years old, this forum site has helped me so much, the people are all so kind and helpful.
Now then, my wether always seemed like yours in body shape, he eats a lot, has forage, pasture, good hay, minerals, salt lick, and small amount of Pygmy goat mix, I also give garlic, pumpkin seeds to help keep worms away… so far after fecal testing never had to give worming meds. He jumps about and boss of my doe. My boy feels bony on his hips too. I was told when he was young, that he might just be a skinny goat, I know it’s a worry for you, and Iam not the best to give advise, others are far better for advise, but I just wanted to share about my boy……but your baby seems to have bit more going on, so perhaps a vet is needed for maybe blood tests, thinking of you, love from UK xx
