Adding to the list of issues we've been having this season, I just went to milk one of our new moms who only has one kid (the other was stolen). She had a lot of blood in her milk, and the more I milked her the more the milk went from red to pink. Her udder is lumpy, hot and huge. She appears to be breathing heavily. Should I call the vet? Is this mastitis? What do I do?

If you feel more comfortable calling the vet, do that. Otherwise put peppermint oil or bag balm on, massage well and milk out. You need her milked out to infuse the mastitis treatment.

she is not going to like it but she will need to be milked out several times a day outta that side and treated. A round of penicillin might not hurt either if it gets bad enough. Not sure if its today or tomorrow that you wanna use. One of them has more anti biotics then the other.
