If I have no idea when our does are in heat, and I want kid goats in very early March, then when do I put them with the bucks. A March 10th 2010 delivery minus 150 days would put breeding about Oct 12th. When do you put the doe with the buck??? 3 wks on each side of the 12th? I don't want them too much earlier, as it could be cold here in Michigan.

Please advise. I can't seem to ever see when either doe is in heat.

My pastures adjoin up near the buck barn and when the does are in heat they go and stand at the fence to flag at the bucks on the other side. That's how I know who's in heat and when here. As for juniors who aren't as obvious in heat, I just try them daily if I can. Every morning, put them in a little holding pen or breeding pen with the buck, see if he shows a lot of interest and what she does. Some first timers won't want to stand at first for the buck. He'll usually presuade her though.
