so I tried a recipe for goat milk lotion

    10.2 oz water
    10.2 oz goat milk
    1.2 oz emulsifying wax
3.7 oz oils (use any assortment of oils you like, as long as the total weight is 3.7 oz)
    1.2 oz shea butter
.3 oz optiphen or germaben II

I used cocoa butter instead of shake butter, distilled water, fresh goat milk, the wax, coconut oil, the germaben and lime essential oil.

It was DEVINE! I loved it as well as a friend that I gave some to as this is trial before selling. Her son has terrible eczema and does wonders for his skin. I also gave some to my mom.

My problem is, my mom didn’t use it and it had almost separated a bit and had white mold on it. Then, my friends after using almost all of it, turned and has a terrible smell to it. Mine just did the same thing where it has a browning on it like it went bad.

Anyone make lotion with their goat milk that can help me? Different recipe? Did I not mix the getmaben in enough? Did I not have enough germaben? Is the shelf life just not that long? I’m so disappointed because I love it and plan to sell my products but I can’t sell something that’s going to go bad.

The shelf life probably still isn't that long.

    Did you pasteurize the milk?

I did not. I may try pasturizing the milk next time I make it

You have to pasteurize the milk or it will mold. The optiphen is the preservative and it will keep for 6 to 8 months as long as you pasteurize the milk first! :) Your recipe looks just fine. Give it another go. Good luck!

6-8 months with pasteurized milk sounds much better!

The recipe I tried made about three 8-10oz bottles I think. It was a while ago. Lol

I think it is germaben II I used. Is the optiphen better?

Optiphen is paraben free. It is what I use in my lotion. :)

On recipes, you can just double or triple them to make more! :)
