I have a 7 week old Nigi buckling that I came home to having scours.

Here are the stats on him -

Tuesday night (when I got home)
    - dried scours down his legs
    - acting normal
    - eating
    - trying to nurse from mom (mom is weening)
    - running and playing
    - cleaned him up
    - no meds

    Wednesday Morning -
    - no scours
    - running and playing
    - eating good

    Wednesday Night -
    - scours (wet)
    - eating good
    - running and playing
    - cleaned up
    - gave 6cc pepto orally

    Thursday Morning -
    - scours (wet)
    - eating good
    - running and playing
    - cleaned up
    - gave 6cc pepto orally

Now I did do a 5 day treatment for Cocci at 3 weeks old. Did change from a timothy, grass, brome hay to an alfalfa/grass hay while I was gone (10 days total on the new hay). Maybe to rich

I was thinking of watching and giving pepto for another 24 hours - if no change will do cocci tx again - what do you all think????? :? :? :?

    fecal ;)

But yah another 12-24 hours of Pepto shouldnt hurt. Just be aware that I had a goat die on me and he was acting a tadd off but he was otherwise fine, playing and all for about a week then suddenly was down flat and dead with in an hour. I do believe it was enterotoxemia (mom never got CD/T and he was to young for the toxoid.

I would guess that it is the hay. Alfalfa hay is a lot richer then grass, and they just love it so they will eat it until they are very full.

I agree with the others.... could very well be the alfalfa...

    What color are the scours?

It wouldn't hurt to get a fecal done....may be worms to.....

How old do they need to be for an Ivomec Plus injection??

I just got my microscope, just need to get/make fecasol for the float - anyone have a recipe for it?? Then I can do it at home as I know what I am looking for.

    Thanks

you just need a very saturated salt solution.

I make it just how Teresa told me - by adding salt till it doesnt desolve anymore and then add a bit more.

I gave my boer kids ivomac plus ...injected them ...at 1 month old...boy did that freak me out...some kids will scream like your killing them...It must burn like a dickens....I had one kid...that I swear was dead...he laid there on his side for a while....until I actually sat him up and then he got up....and layed down again...for a little while then he was OK......none actually died ...but it made me feel bad....That was my experience anyway....... :(

I think that I am going to go ahead and deworm him with Ivomec Plus but orally then - as he is almost 8 weeks already (man time flies) but I do plan on starting cocci tx again just to make sure.

I will do a fecal float this weekend, but watch him closely - he is such a hoot out there with the lambs and Nova (now SHE is a chunk butt!!!)

Yea...it is easier on the kids giving by mouth..........

I know what you mean on the time thing...It seems like they were just born....

    getting a fecal done...is a real good idea... :)

Well last night he only had a hint of scours.

    This morning none :)

So we will see - the hay may well have been to rich for him.
