I am getting a new buck pretty soon. He was born April 17, 2007 He is really nice looking (and friendly) but he will be housed with our other bucks and he has about 1-2 inch long scurs. I really don't need him injuring anybody, bucks or girls. When he was a kid they had problems disbudding him, because his horns kept growing back. If his scurs do become a problem, what is the most humane way to "get rid of" them? And prevent them from coming back? Thanks!
if it isnt a full size horn you can wiggle it and eventually it will fall off. If it is like a horn then I would consider banding it
If it moves you can wiggle it until it comes off or you can cut it off with a pair of hoof trimmers. Some bleed a little bit. I usually have someone hold the animal down and burn it with the iron a little after its off. Normally they dont come back. beth
