i noticed my two pygmy goats were twitching and stomping their feet quickly so i googled it and saw that lice can cause it

checked their hair, sure enough, lice :(

what are some effective non prescription treatments? and are there ways to prevent it in the future?

they're pretty fluffy too, so its hard to see how bad it is

My adult goats stay parasite free by eating orange peels often. I dry the peels so they are crunch chip like treats. They love them!
I try to feed them all a few peels 2-4 times a week.
This is the first year I’ve noticed lice and my babies are the only ones that have some. I’m going to go ahead and treat with CyLence to make sure it doesn’t evolve into a bad infestation. 1 cc per 25# weight is the dosage I’ve seen recommended. With a 2nd dosing at about 3 weeks… good luck!

I put Nu-Stock sulfur ointment all over them and then a week later give them a bath with dish soap.
I also put Diatemacous Earth in their stalls and put some on them in the spring and winter.
Lice are dormant in the summer.

I use Ivomec pour on, the blue liquid, 1 cc per 20 lbs along the top line for adults. It kills lice/ mites.
