ind this is my first year kidding. Yesterday I thought what I seen was contractions on barn camera but never seen any progression and no pushing. She's has sunken in the flanks. Her vulva is swollen. And she seems to have a bag.

Will it be easy to tell when labour is actually near? Or should I keep checking every 2 hours?

You’re gonna look for her losing her plug… usually an opaque white in color. Then a long thick kind of clear goo hanging down that will start to change to Amber/dark red in color.

eating and sleeping is normal as she’s prepping to go. Lol
I know this is your first kidding, is it hers?

Thank you. And no we only have 3 due and they all have previously kidded before. They are all boer kiko and we have one boer nubian. They are all fairly big sized goats too

I read up that a bag isn't what to usually go by? Is that false? Or is that the most accurate way?
I had a FF not bag up at all prior to kidding. It can happen.
They gals have all kidded before, so they can bag up day of or right after… you can’t always go by the udder.
And I’m not very good at feeling ligaments, not enough to be confident, so I watch the vulva and what’s going on there.

She doesn’t look super close.

The stuff sticking in her vulva looks like bedding from her laying down.
Her udder isn’t super big yet. But yes, some fill after they kid.
But most, will be super full prior to kidding. Itcan happen over night.

She is still up on her sides.
