Trying to understand minerals. Do I buy a goat feed that has a good nutritional value and then put out minerals? Or is there a whole feed that has it all? I have 3 ND out on pasture and have been feeding them a mix of sweet feed/alfalfa pellets/timothy pellets, very small amount morning and night. And put some manna pro minerals out. They won’t touch the minerals unfortunately. I’m not sure if I’m giving them enough nutrition and minerals and looking for direction. I was looking at the purina minerals too wondering if that’s any better? Thanks for the advice.

Feed and minerals are two separate things.

I highly recommend Sweetlix meat maker minerals, but Purina Goat Mineral is adequate.

No salt is needed UNLESS you need to makeup for what your mineral is lacking.

Sweet feed is not great nutrition - try a balanced goat pellet instead!!

    Do you have does?

I have a doe in milk, a 5 mo old doeling and a 5 mo old wether. They all live together. Can I feed them the same goat pellet?

The minerals you need to feed is location spacific.
    For an example
If you live in Lolo Mt. You live in an area that has no salt or celenem. You would need to feed two time's more salt and the only way to get enough celenem is to get it from your vet.
This is a talk you should have with your vet.

I did a lot of reading through some threads here. I went with Purina Goat Feed and the Purina Wind Rain and Storm to start with, until I can do further research and find more feed stores nearby and see what they carry. Thank you for the help. They seem happier already!

This stuff really makes our goats thrive. We feed free choice in the summer and in there grain ration in the winter 20200704_095144.jpg

I do not sell this mineral but I still am kicking myself for not buying the rites to sell in this area.
I now see the difference in my goats and others

I don’t love it but it’s okay - high copper for sure!! Ingredients aren’t very bio available... but not awful!! Glad it has worked well for you!!

I've never seen it around here, but it looks way better than the other minerals carried by TSC.
