I just found the doe of my dreams! She is almost perfect in every way! I would be spending almost all of my money on one doeling! And she's 3 hours one-way from me. So Am I crazy? She really is the doe of my dreams! But I'm hesitant to drive 6 hours and spend $350 on a doeling. But she's so perfect!!!
Her ears, her colors, her lines, her nose! OMGOODNESS!!!
My mother is going to kill me...

I've driven 6 hrs one way in the middle of winter for a epic doe(I do live in Canada though:)). If it means good stock, the genetics you want, and the primary foundation stone of your future flock, I wouldn't turn it down.
Maybe if it was more appealing to your mom you could offer a little more $ and meet at a half-way point some where?
Just an idea.
good luck!

Good to know I'm not that crazy. I know her conformation isn't the best but I also know my buck will complaint any kids she throws. She is young and will line up with my breeding plans for next fall when I breed my doelings for the first time.
My mother doesn't have to drive me, she just doesn't like it when I want another goat.

Two years ago I drove 7 hours each way to spend $1,000 on a doeling sight unseen, based only on her pedigree.

This summer I drove 6 hours each way to spend $650 on a buckling.

Around here we joke that if I don't have to drive at least 4 hours to get to it, I don't want it :p

The doeling grew up to be one of my favorite does. The buckling's first kids are due in spring, so we'll see if he ends up being worth it ;)

If this doeling is everything you want (and you're sure that she is,) I wouldn't hesitate to get her. You're better off spending all your money on one doe that's exactly what you want than on two or three does that you're not going to be completely happy with or that don't do as much for your breeding program.

We drove 12 hours one way to pick up our first ABGA fullblood does about 7 years ago. We couldn’t do the 24 hour round trip, so we had to stay in a hotel for the night.

I’m glad we did it. Those does were the foundation of our herd, and I don’t think we would be where we are today without them.

So I say go for it!

Well, i bought two from California - and Im in Ohio. I will not say the price - but lets just say, pedigree, LA scores, show records, udders, buck's scores and the dams udder etc. has a very large part in it. $350 is really a bargain for a well bred doe - DO make sure, as with any nubian that she is G6S N/N

Where do I get the test for G6s? I've been meaning to have my doelings tested but I never figured out where to go. My buck is N/N by parentage so I'm not worried about it but I do want to know.

I drove 3 hours with 2 very small bickering kids and a husband that was tired and grumpy.........for a doe that ended up being half the weight of the picture she sent me. But I made the trip so got her anyways and she was a wonderful day.
I say if she is your dream goat make the leap! The first time I made that huge leap out of my comfort zone it was the best decision. She was also my dream goat and I had her shipped down from Washington. My next leap was a buck and again totally worth it. So you never know until you try so give it a try!

I've driven a 20 hr. round trip for 5 Saanens, pretty much non stop. Does were fine, I was kind of tired. I still have 4 of the 5 and they produce well.

But, if she isn't what you want or you don't like something, don't buy her. 6 hours is a cheap price to pay for a lifetime of hassles with a bad or sick goat. Been there, done that. "I drove this far, better get her". I ignored all the negative signs. It was a bad situation. Thank goodness she never got into my herd.

Yep, we've driven 10 hours round trip and spent a good bit on a buckling. I've shipped in 4 different animals from OR and WA...that was pretty pricey after transport and animal cost...but cheaper than driving lol. I've regularly gone 2-4 hours one way...but TX is huge, so that's nothing here LOL.

I've driven that far, and will do it again. As others have said, you want to be really, really sure you want the goat before you go far enough that you feel committed to buying.
If the breeder is charging that much, I would think they would at least be using a G6S normal buck, be doing annual biosecurity testing, etc. I'm sure you're asking those questions. :D
I'm not an ADGA member, but I was able to send hair samples off to UC Davis for (I think) $15 each for G6S testing. It's really easy.
