Right now I have a first time mom taking good care of her little buckling in one of the kidding stalls. How long should I keep them separate from the rest of the group? I know there are no hard fast rules, I just want what is best for kid safety and social development.

Since my girls kid late February to early March, I normally keep moms n kids separate for a week, after that the only time they are separate from the herd is at night, safer snuggling for warmth as well as the fact that I start to milk at 3-4 weeks...easier for me to have the moms "right there" as opposed to fighting a mob.

  3. I agree, after a week you want them to be back with their herd. They only need a week to bond and much more then that the dame looses rank and has to start over in same cases. Plus there is so much more the group will teach rather then a single mom. She does much but they learn and play with others giving her a break. HEHE
