Can someone explain why he didn't get urinary calculi?
Feed has grain in it yes! If you do want to feed it its suggested to add ammonium chloride or get a feed with ammonium chloride in it! That reduces the chance of UC.

Is this a buck or wether? I have a buck that before knowing wasn't getting any ammonium chloride either and he never got UC. .. doesn't mean they won't get it though.
It's not that you can't give male goats grain, it's that their diet needs to be balanced. Their whole diet should have a 2-2.5:1 calcium to phosphorus ratio.
Bucks can and will get Urinary calculi- an experienced breeder lost a great buck last year- It is not as rare as people think. I think it's because during rut, they don't
eat as much of their balanced diet- and only eat to survive to mate again! Some bucks gobble the grain, but the hay takes too long to eat. (even if no does are around).
