I have a suggestion. On your front page, one of the very first things people can see, imo, should be your location. I cannot tell you how many goats I have fallen in love with only to find out, after searching high and low for a location, that they are so far away as to make it impossible for me to even think of buying them! This is just something I think would make it easier to browse a good website, where the main idea is to sell an animal
Yes, that is tough browsing too!! LOL I think if you want to sell your animals, you need to let people know where you are, and how to get ahold of ya! hahaha and, imo, good website design has the important info on the front page Or at least a big fat box/link to it on the front page
I have my location on my frontpage.... even the title to my homepage in the menu bar reads Myotonic goat breeder in California. Do you KNOW what the #1 question I get from people is??????????? "Where are you located" ummmm..... HELLO.... California!!! Jess Faint-Hearted Ranch www.faintheartedranch.net
Me to... I as well ..have where we are located...phone number ect... I hate it when... you click on contact and all they have is ...a form to fill out ...no phone number.... it is frustrating...
good point! Mine does, but not my street addy -- I had someone show up at my front door on Sunday to "see the goats'! I was so stunned, and I asked them how they found my address. They told me from teh NPGA website, I guess under the judges. I'm gonna have to check and see if they'll change that address! :whatgoat:
thats what was so frustrating to me as well so I made it the first thing on my site and I have a "contact me" page too. And on my forsale page -- as well as a contact me form that goes directly to my email.
Yes, Denise, I google mapped your addy from that website At least I think it was that one. I was looking at Kevin Kress, since that is my dh's name  I don't think your addy is necessary, as long as your location is there, you can figure whether you want to buy from that person or not... I mean at least a state, ya know? I think an email or form is ok for contact info too. Although a phone number is nice too I don't care about filling out the form, but I dont want to waste my time just to find out it is clear across the country hehe
I know I have everything on my home page but I think I need to doublecheck the sales page. I know many times I look at animals and don't see contact info on the sales page. I think I'm guilty of that myself. I know there's an email address there but I need to check for the rest.
The only problem with posting a phone number is it is very easy to do a reverse number search and get someones address. That's why I took mine off. You can get a lot of information on someone if you have a phone number. Mobile phones are harder to search, cost money to search them.
I have my location, phone number and email in bold on my homepage but nearly every since person that emails me asks "where are you located?" I have my cell phone number on my site, so I don't have to worry about anybody getting my address
I dont like having my exact adress on there. Just my town. And i dont hesitate to ship a kid that i really really want. beth
On my front page- I have Eastern North carolina- I also have a contact page with both our mobile #'s -e-mail and a contact form. I very rarely get calls, mostly the form or an e-mail- I still get the Where are you located bit....I did have my address, but I was coming home to people walking around my back yard looking at my goats while I wasnt here- I spoke to them before, but didnt know they were coming out. I cant stand that! I'd like to be here when they are. I had a bottle baby dissappear like that once
I don't have a website for my goats yet, but when I advertise anywhere to sell them, I show a map on how to get to my general location about a mile away. I tell people to meet me there and I escort them to our yard, for fear that someone might help themselves to a kid or two when no one is around. I sometines sell on craigslist and by seeing the map right away someone knows if your too far or not.
wow, isnt it sad that people just feel free to come on other's property or that someone "helping themself" to an animal is something ya have to worry about? Man. What is this world coming to? I personally like to see the location top right front and center! LOL So much easier But I have been on sites where the location is either very well hidden or just not there! It is awkward to send a message just to ask where they are located!
Yikes! That is scary. I am also working on a website. I am my worst critic, so I'm being a perfectionist-I don't know if I can ever get it done. That and, I really don't have any breeding goats at this time. (I have one alpine doe, and one nubian/boer X doe, and no access to an alpine buck) So, I feel a bit at a loss, because I don't have anything to show but a pretty webpage! Bleh... But that is a great idea to have your location. Somehow I neglected to put that on my page.
