Is my goat in labor?

1299 Views 16 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Suzzetthegoatlady
My Nigi doe got bred July 17 and she should be kidding soon but I don't know for sure if she is pregnant but she started bagging, she has a swollen vulva, her ligaments softened and she has had a tone of milky discharge for the past two or three days but other than that no other signs of labor, no restlessness, no pawing, no contractions, and no personality change. What's going on with my doe!?

Sounds like she could be getting very close. Is this her first kidding? Check this out. Doe's secret code of honor -- A Must read for all...

Hi there. Send us some pictures. But I agree. She could be close.
Post some pictures but it sounds like she is getting ready.
If she was bred July 17th, her due date would be around Feb 13th.
She still has time to go before she can safely kid, for her kids to survive.

It could be late term discharge, which is normal.
White gloppy discharge could be her mucus plug

My does dont paw the ground until right before they kid...when they're in full on labor and just trying to get the kid out. I mainly watch for the bagging, swollen vulva and ligaments but sometimes ligaments can go several weeks before. If she was bred on the 17th she should still have a week or two to go and since they usually stick to 145-155 days i dont think she'll go for at least a week, (i could be wrong tho.) After looking at topics on here i've found its not the same, but i've bred three different does in my 2 years of breeding and none of those three got discharge until the day they kidded.....

do u know for sure that she was bred on july 17th?

Good luck with kidding!! post some pictures of babies after they arrive!!
I put her in with the buck that day and he bred her several times but she could have gotten pregnant a few days after

Do u know if she was in heat when u put her in? How long was she with the buck? Did you watch them do the deed? 😛 Do u remember if she was hunched after? Sorry for all the questions 😂
Do u have any current pics of her? From the side/on top/from behind?
Breed date of July 17 2021 gives kidding date estimate at December 14th. White goop is most likely the mucus plug which they normally loose a few weeks to a month before kidding.

One of mine checks her imaginary male equipment out like a buck…After mating, she walks around vocalizing like a buck too.🤣

Most of my few goats I’ve had kid lost their mucus plug within 48 hours of kidding. I believe that’s what it was. They suddenly had a bit of goop then labor started like 12 hours later. I know people’s experiences can really change on their goat’s pregnancies.
