Does this sound like a good deal to you?

Rhinehart Electric Dehorner - model X30 - brand new in the box- never used $60
read up on the various models, I picked this one out for calves and goats

I will have someone show me how to do it, because I would be freaked out to do it on my own...., I was going to go with the paste, but I thought maybe I should get this incase the paste doesn't work.

That is what we have...: ) $60 is good if it new....right now its $74.95 at hoeggers, where I bought mine
Cool, thanks! Kidding season is just around the corner, so I wanna be prepared:)
be sure to do a tetanus antitoxin shot and keep some ACV in a small spray bottle and spritz their heads when you are done..cools it fast..no more pain..or at least it seems so...My daughter says its a miracle lol..

At what point do you disbud? Also I'm assuming that if you give them the tetanus antitoxin you can still vaccinate with the CDT vaccine at 3 weeks and 6 weeks?
each kid is different...we wait until we see a good size nub but not broke from the skin, and prefer no point yet...
you can give the CD&T 10 days after the tetanus antitoxin is given..
It can be tough sometimes to judge when. To small you can get scurs, to big and of course you can also. Buck vs doe is also different. Bucks need to be done much sooner. Here we just CD/T right before we disbud.
since cd&t is a toxoid, it is meant to get in there slow and work long..with disbudding or bandng, injury , bites ect..you need the tetanus antitoxin for "right now" protection...you can do CD&T 10 days after the T. Antitoxin...;)
I myself would pay the extra for the ......what is it X50??? The more expensive one lol. I have the 30 and I hate it and am now going to buy the other. I always do the kids right side first then the left. The right side comes out good but have scurs on the left even waiting a good minute or so between which the kid is screaming its head off during that time. My first 2 kids that were done I took to a friends and she had the better one it kept the heat way better. But if that's what you have your heart set on make sure the tip is correct for what your using it on. A guy let me borrow his iron before I buy what I want but he has a calf tip and its like twice the size it should be.
We like our 30..we always wait for it fully heat back up between sides...once it can burn a full circle in the wood...we are good to go..
So do I just feel and look at when their horn buds are starting to poke through, and once they are then do it? Is this correct? If I posted pics of their buds could you guys just tell by looking? I just don't wanna have anymore with horns....
About the 30, can that disbud my kinders as well as my medium to standard size goats? I just wanna make sure. I haven't heard back from the people who placed the ad yet.
as TDG said, it does have a lot of factors...buck or doe..breed..fiasco farms has a good article on disbudding..I would look at everything you can find on the subject..get a good feel of what size nub you are looking for...

that is a good question on the size of the burner...if you look it up on hoeggers and see if it comes with a changeable tip...I have standerd breeds rightnow, and so never had to think about it...But I will this spring!! :-D
Thank you Happybleats, I'll look that website up:) I've learned a lot from them....
