I have the opportunity to use this buck again. I would put him with my Senior Does to up the LaMancha percentage I need.

What can you tell me about his pedigree as I am not familiar with LaMancha's yet.

I don't know anything about lamancha pedigrees...

But the dam is a superior genetics, finished champion, and a 5th generation doe to get her milk star. Sire has his star and was from an artificial insemination breeding. Sire and dam were also on LA for a few years...i'd go to ADGA's website and look at their scores.

Have you looked at his daughter's linear scores?

One thing I notice from his pedigree is that his sire and dam are half siblings, and he is 15.21% inbred.

If you do decide to use him you should probably make sure he is mostly unrelated to your does.

I will be using him on my senior MM does. My goal is to up their LaMancha percentages, but mainly to improve upon their milk capacity. I had a lot of success last year using a very nice ND buck (http://www.southlandranchtx.com/Teki.html ) with these girls that gave me the improvements and more that I was looking for actually. I am trying to bring in new genetics as our gene pool for the MM's here in TX is not very big. I want to use bucks with the milking pedigree behind them to help with this as well.

I actually used this buck before on an Unregistered LM doe. So I have seen him in person and he is a very nice buck. At the time I did not even know his name, LOL, as he was on loan from a friend of a friend.

So you are wanting to use a LaMancha buck on Mini LaMancha does, do I have that right? I would not personally do that. I would worry that the kids could be too large for them to deliver safely, but I don't know much about mini lamanchas, maybe someone else can weigh in on that. He does have a very high LA score for stature, so I would assume he is a big guy.

If you've seen the buck and used him before I am sure you know better than we do how whether he will work for you, I'm just noting what I can see from his adgagenetics page

Yes I would be putting him on a few MM does and he is a big boy. But the does I have chosen for him are senior does that are big bodied and have more height to them. I would not put him on small or FF does at all, the does chosen are ones that I feel would not have a problem with his size. I think I might have a picture of him somewhere from when he was here before, I will go look and post it if I do.

I really think he would bring a lot to the girls that I have carefully picked for him, especially now that I know what his pedigree is and everyone's opinion's on him.

We have a mini-nubian and she has been bred every year to standard size bucks and delivered without any problems. You will have to decide if it can work for your MM but I haven't had a problem breeding to standard bucks

Checked his pedigree on ADGA, he has some very nice LA scores behind him! He scored VEE 89 as a 2 year old, Dam scored EEEV 91 as a 4 year old and his sire scored EEV 91 at 5 years. His sire's dam (and his dam's dam) scored EEEE 91 at 6 years, but was coded for spread toes.

He sounds like a really nice buck, but I would be wary of using him on any of your does that have spread toes, with that doe doubled up so close in his pedigree, if your does also have splayed toes you probably won't be gaining anything there. Granted, the spread toes on the grand dam could be due to poor hoof trimming rather than genetics.
