It all started with chickens...geese and now here we are looking at GOATS.

Hello All,

My husband and I live in WNY with our 2 kids, barn cats and dog, bought a property with 20 acres and have been slowly adding some farm animals. We have 16 chickens and 12 Geese. We just decided in the last couple of months that we would like to add some goats to our little homestead. We are interested in goats to clear land for right now with the fact that our property is pretty over ridden due to the last owners of 20 years not taking care of the pastures and what not. Then maybe down the road we might look in to dairy or meat production.

Anywho long story short, I need a place to ask those questions that google can't always answer, because I am super new to all this. ;)

Well that's why I am here...there is some differences between birds and goats I am sure. But I learn fast and can take some beating. I am excited to learn something new. My birds were new to me and we learned and I love them. So hoping this will too be as fulfilling. Thank for the welcome!

Welcome.

Yes. One of the first things you'll notice is the number of feet.

(Can't wait for you to ask about goat breed suggestions. :) )

Well I'm all for Nigerian Dwarfs lol their smaller but give good milk.... if you want a smaller goat easier (not easy though lol) to handle that's what I'd go with! I have a fainter cross that's harder to handle ... but she's a little more skiddish so that may be why!

We're only about 40 minutes away from marilla :) If you ever need help with learning health management, deciding what breed would suit you best, and even where to get them, I'd be more than happy to help you! 😁 Feel free to message me with any questions you have

Hello and welcome! I started with chickens too….now look at us, lol. Goats are so much fun. I think you will love having them. We have Nigerians. Initially I had planned on a standard sized dairy breed, but decided on ND so I could handle and transport them without help. The husband says he doesn’t care what animals I get as long as he doesn’t have to do anything with them lol. My children are 4 and 6 and love to help with the animals. The goats especially are a big hit.
