The September Yearling Sale starts on Monday! It's the biggest yearling sale of it's kind in the world. I always attend, take pictures for myself, for media use, and for different people.

This year, however, I am just not sure how much I will do. They changed the format of the sale and it's more difficult.
The first 2 days were 'Select' horses. The ones who had the big pedigrees, and this year they are doing away with the select part and have mixed the horses in with what would normally be the 2nd book type of horses.
Over 200 horses will sell each day.

Horses start shipping in today & tomorrow. They start showing tomorrow, so I may stop in and look around for a bit tomorrow.
I'll be out most likely Sat-Sat.
This Sat evening I have to go an hour away to shoot horse racing, which will make for a very long, tiring weekend.

Here's a link to photos from last year, Book #1 select horses:

Awesome pics! It always amazes me how BIG those Thoroughbreds are as yearlings, granted most are almost two by this time of the year, but still they are so TALL.

We had a mare for a while that was from some pretty good bloodlines, all her siblings her big runners but she was small and didn't like to run. Her half-Arab colt was almost as big as she was at 6 months!

Thanks! It's quite an experience, so many beautiful horses ♥♥♥

I agree, they are so big! Thoroughbreds are born between Jan 1st-End of May, and some into June. Most prefer to have them Jan-March especially if they have sales or 2yo racing in mind.

Here's the first book if anyone wants to browse:

I just finished putting my list together and in barn order # for the entire first book. This is my personal short list of horses, then I have another short list of watches that I need to finish up later.

At this point I am not sure who could really be a 'sale topper.'

But...if these horses scope well and have good conformation, I do expect them to be high prices yearlings:
530
304 - Dam won 19 of 19 races/I think this isfirst yearling to go through this sale, don't think the 2yo did.
334 -Dam sold for $4,500,000 last November & this yearling has a hot sire.

541 - If this filly is as good as her pedigree...we're talking a lot of $$
This mare's 3yo colt by Unbridled's Song has run very well this year. His name is WILL TAKE CHARGE and just won The Travers about 2 weeks ago which is a Grade 1, $1,000,000 race.
He was also a $425,000 yearling
4yo colt <my fav!!!> by now pensioned stallion A.P. Indy, TAKE CHARGE INDY, he was overlooked as a yearling because he looked so feminine. Buyers loss!
He won the Grade 1 Florida derby last year $1,000,000 and has run in a lot of other nice races and was very strong leading up to a foreleg injury the end of July :(
The only thing that could be a factor for the yearling in this sale is, he is by deceased stallion Indian Charlie. It could go either way. Indian Charlie was an awesome stallion though, so we'll see what happens.

Oh...758's dam is Charming, is a daughter of Take Charge Lady as well.

855.... I have to say I am extremely excited about this one!
Tiznow - Easter Bunnette filly.
Easter Bunnette is the dam of one of my favorites... HAVRE DE GRACE.
I saw Grace as a yearling at this sale, and absolutely fell in love and followed her through her race career. She was Horse of the Year in 2011, Champion older female in 2011, she earned over $2,500,000 on the track.
She sold for $10,000,000 last November.

I'll list more if I get a chance. Time to go make dinner and take a break from the sales stuff for a bit ;)
