I want to add on to a 3 sided shed to protect for a spot for a female goat to have a kid. Is a 4x4 spot what I need that could be filled with straw and kept seperate from other animals? Will I need electricity right there?

Any suggestions as to how to prepare for young goats is appreciated. We are not expecting this spring but plan to breed this summer/fall.

Thanks

What kind of goats do you have?

For our boers and dairy goats, we usually do about a 5x5 pen and that is plenty of room. We only have heat lamps on when it is cold, otherwise we will kid coats on them and that is usually enough.

Here is a good thread for kidding supplies to have on hand: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=354

You probably don't NEED electricity to your shed. But, you'll definately WANT electricity to your shed. I like to be able to see everybody when we go out at night. Hubby spent a few bucks getting light and electricity out to the barn and chicken coop. I for one really appreciate it!

And Welcome to The Goat Spot!
