Went I went out this morning, one of Rudy's kids, the buckling I was going to keep, was down. I thought for sure he was dead until I picked him up and felt his heart beating.

I laid him out and rubbed and rubbed, his eyes were unresponsive and I just knew he was going to die. But when he swallowed I ran him inside and put him in one of my dog's heated beds. Then he cried and tried to get up, but his neck was thrown back.

I gave him some nutri-drench and selenium with vit. e and have him warming up and keep rubbing him, He is breathing better, but the thermometer will only read Lo??!

I don't have high hopes for him making it . . hubby isn't home so I can't take him anywhere.

    What else can I do???

make some coffee then add a little caro syrup and whiskey - this will help warm him up from the inside.

Take a hair dryer to him and warm him that way. Also a ziplock of water warmed as a heating bottle.

    How old is he?

Do you have any vit B complex - that will stimulate his appetite to eat. Is he looking to nurse at all?

What color are his gums and eyelids?

I will try...I don't think we have whiskey, we don't drink! I can get coffee though.

    He was born 2/28

Now he stiffens and cries, almost like having a seizure, before relaxing again. His eyes are more responsive but its so frightening.

Edited: He can't even stand, he's inside right now on a heated bed. gums and eyelids are very pink, not pale thank god

have you seen him nurse from mom at all lately? Do the coffee and karo (or molassas) - the sugar helps perk them up - and syringe him a couple cc's (make sure not to hot to burn him)

Then go milk momma - and syringe in some milk from her.

 we will do what we can to help you and him....

Yesterday he was fine, chasing mom for a snack and playing. I gave him a little coffee, and will try to get some milk...Rudy's never been milked and I'm scared to leave him alone.

He seems to be doing a tiny bit better...but maybe that's just optimism

until his temp is up do not give him any milk, he wont be able to digest it until his temp is up above 90 (thermometers do not read temps below 90)

Give him the coffee karo mixture and warm him up by rubbing and all of the above that Alison suggested.

I fyou have any CD antitoxin give him 10ccs by mouth and 10ccs injected. This is the enterotoxemia treatment

    I got a temp...91.1!!!! :(

Off to get some milk and the Cd/T

I won't give the milk just yet, should I wait a bit more?

Added: Yes I have some milk from Honey, and its possible of course since he's in with the does. They're all gentle around the kids but accidents happen

if it is caused by a toxin yes. Another possibility is he was hit hard in the side or back causing spinal damage either temporary or perminant.

When they are not strong enough to hold themselves up they do toss their head back and flale about.

Thats good that his temp is continuing to go up. :thumb: Keep up what you are doing and get some milk in him to get his strength up.

How long was it between when you saw him last and when you found him?

    Re: Kid down emergency

I gave him a little bit of milk and he swallowed it.

I hope it isn't a severe injury...putting him down would be heartbreaking.

I saw him last, last evening around 6p.m., and then found him this afternoon when I went out to check hay, at around 1-1:30. I don't remember seeing him this morning, but I usually just feed everything and go inside for a while, and the kids are usually snoozing at that time in the shelter.

I am glad that he is doing better - I sure hope that it continues on this same track.

Is he trying to stand at all yet?

No, just once in a while he kicks his legs and throws his head back...I can't tell if he's trying to get up and can't, or if its a seizure of some sort...

    temp is now 101.2
