Kid limping on 2 legs

578 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Goats Rock
I have a 3 week old boer doeling who started limping on her left back leg about a week ago. And then she started limping on her right front leg about 2 days ago. I can't feel any swelling or see any wounds on either leg or foot. It also seems like it is worse when she first gets up like she is all stiff. But after she has run around with the other kids for a while she puts more weight on her back leg.
Any ideas of what might be going on?

How does her hoovs look? I'd check for Hoof rot. Or any other infections around the feet. Does she stand normally? Or does she stand with her legs to a weird angle?

that is what i was thinking. we have a doeling that limps around because the ground is soft. still trying to fix her.

Do you have somewhere dry you can put her? That might help harden her hoovs.

the only wet spot is in front of the stall but the rest is dry

We live in the sandhills and it has not been wet here since about August. The ground is extreamly dry so I doubt it could be anything related to moisture. Her hoovs look normal.

At 3 weeks old would consider joint ill as well. Check her temperature, look at her naval for signs of infection. No swelling is good..but if hooves look fine or if she has fever I would start joint ill/naval ill treatment asap.
Baytril is best for it but nuflor is good or in a punch la 200.

You will have to treat with LA-200 or Nuflor for at least 2 weeks. Joint ill is really difficult to get rid of. Biomycin is also good,
it is LA-200 with a non sting carrier- PBS and Jeffers both carry it. But, whatever you use- start immediately. Good luck!
