Kids and mommas separation age

Hi! I have 3 week old ND kids they are Dam raised we separate them at night and milk moms in the morning and the babies stay with the mom the rest of the day. When do y’all separate kids away from moms during the day? I know 12 weeks they can be weaned but do y’all just keep the kids with the mom all of the time until 12 weeks? Or give the mom a break throughout the day and only put the kids in to nurse a few times through the day? This is our first kidding season so we are still learning!

well if they are boys, they get a buck apron at 7 weeks.most of my boys leave between 8-9 weeks. girls depends on if im keeping, if i keep then they stay on mom until they get weaned.if not they also leave at 8-9 weeks. I start separating when they are not "glued" to mom. She goes out for 15 min or so then works her way up to an hour, bring her back in too feed kids then she goes out again if she wants too. it all depends on mom and kids.
I don't separate our kids during the day. We let the dam's wean when they're ready and milk once per day in the mornings. Sometimes the dam's wean pretty early & sometimes it seems to go on forever! Separating during the day seems to be something folks do when it makes sense space-wise and when they are milking twice per day, but it's not a necessity. Will be interested to see when it's done for those who do separate.
Our bucklings are banded around 8 weeks and remain with the herd until sold. This next kidding season I'm going to try out having a buckling pen next to the big boy pen for transition, mainly because the bucklings begin to majorly annoy everyone by about 10 weeks.

I think starting to separate during the day helps them with weaning, they dont get as stressed.

How do you go about doing that?

At what age can they get a doe pregnant? I want to make sure we stay safe lol

Most things I've read say by 12 weeks the bucks can impregnate. Have heard folks say as early as 8 weeks though. They will likely be practicing on everything by then!
Your bucks will typically have a set fertile season depending on their breed. And your does will go into heat a few days each month, so start learning about breeding habits now & you'll gain more confidence to make the best decision for your herd :)
What breed(s) are your goats? The Nigerian Dwarf goat, especially the males, become fertile and capable of reproducing at ridiculously young ages depending on the individual. Also, whether the particular goat breed has seasonal or year round heat cycles also plays into the timing of reaching reproductive readiness. A female goat could possibly experience her first heat cycle at an age that could be considered too young for breeding no matter what type of breed you have.

This is how we handle things here too.
Nigerian males can “do the deed” at 7 weeks old. We begin weaning and normal sell them at 8-9 weeks. They will make a fuss at first, but eventually stop once them find the creep feeder lol.
