Looking for a Hand Cream Recipe

1333 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  MellonFriend
Hey all! It's been super dry here recently and my mom, sister and I are all suffering from dry hands. My mom especially since she has always had very dry hands and has never been able to find a hand cream that works for her. My sister recently got into lotion and skin care product making, and she and I are looking for some sort of hand cream recipe that will maybe work better for my mom than the store bought stuff. My sister is a beekeeper so we are looking for a recipe that contains beeswax because she always has a lot to use up. It doesn't have to contain goats milk, but I do have a stash going from a milk withdrawal time. Any favorite recipes you'd like to share?

Lotion bars are great for super dry skin and use bees wax. You can add ess. Oils too for added benefit. Let me know if that sounds like something you want to try and I'll get the recipe for you.

Yeah that definitely might be something we'd want to try. We've never used lotion bars before so I think it would be worth a shot!

Super easy

I do is
3 oz bees wax,
1.5 oZ shea butter,
1.5 Cocoa butter
3 oz oil (sweet almond, olive oil or avacado oil works) look up benefits of each to see which best suites your need. I like infusing calendula in olive oil and use that.
20-40 drops eo if using.

Over double broiler..melt bees wax and butters until melted. Add oil. Wax will cloud up..keep stirring until well blended. Remove from heat, add eo if using and mix well..pour quickly into mold. Let sit until firm. I usually leave over night. This makes 4 soap size bars.

That sounds great! Two questions: Are those measurements fluid ounces or by weight? Secondly, how do you use a lotion bar? Do you use it with water like soap or...?

They are Weigh amounts and with the bars you hold between your hands to warm them up a bit then rub some off..like soap. Set the bar down and work the lotion in. Keep out of the sun and hot places or can melt. These are amazing for winter hands too.

Weed em n reap has a nice udder balm recipe. It feels nice on my hands. Aquaphor works well on my eczema hands. I love aveda hand cream! That is my all time fav. Cetaphil makes a baby lotion that we use on the grandbaby that actually works well for a thinner type lotion.
