I have a goat due to kid around the first of May and am anxiously thinking of names...my doe's name is Jackie-O and I definitely want to carry that trend on to any doelings (fingers crossed for these), using first wives' names. I know you can name the babies anything you want, but do you guys use the buck's name in carrying names down the line for bucklings? I was considering using presidential names for bucklings and first wives' names for doelings...but then again I could always use the buck's name for a trend also...his name is Huckleberry....these will be registered babies, so I want to make great choices for them. Just wondering what you guys do when you name your kiddos...I'm thinking I will stick with first wives and presidents, but didn't know if the buck's name ever came into play....

Can you tell I absolutely CAN'T wait until my doe freshens?? :leap:

I base all of our names on the mama's name. We have a doe named Che (her previous owners pronounced it like the French "Shay," but my history-professor-husband insists it's Che after Che Guevara). SO, all of her kids get names based on historical revolutionaries (so far, we have Pancho. We're hoping for an Emma soon). We have a doe named O'Seven (she was born on 7/7/07). Her kids have been named by their birth order number ("Tresa" means three, "Delta" means four, her next breeding we're hoping for a "Quinn," meaning five). Another doe was Luna, so her kids were named after stars (Lyra and Vega). We have great fun listing the possibilities. Whatever you name them, enjoy the process. I like both of the ideas you've mentioned (first ladies and berries).

Could you give me an example of using the buck's initials?

For example-we have Capricopia's JackieO bred to West End Farm Huckleberry-

Just curious by what you meant for using buck initials...THANKS

I am doing the tattoo letter for that year :p because I am terrible with naming.

I know my does sire is Kids Corral PT Luthor -- PT stands for his sire Pat's Tenor

I also do the sire initials and the dam line,
ex.) Dam: Snow-belt Summer Breeze (B-line)
Sire: Awesome Blossom Moose (abbreviated as ABM)
    Kid: Nutmeg's ABM Bailey

Oh ok...I get it...so you don't use the sire's herd name in your name.....just hhis name/initial(s)...
