This doe is two weeks fresh. When she is full her udder looks normal. But when I milk her, one side is soft and empties well while the other side is very fatty still making it difficult to milk because she has small teats. Kids seem to be nursing both sides equally, one side is just still that hard fatty tissue like they have when they first freshen. I’d like to keep her but I’m a little concerned because her dam had a lopsided udder when I got her. I figured it was just that she had been nursed unevenly before I bought her but now I’m concerned it’s genetic. Anyone ever had something like this happen before?

The picture looks like the milk from the left udder is on the ground. If your concerned feel the udder and make sure its not hot. Take care the Moms temp too. I usually watch for redness, turning dark. She looks good to me, but it never hurts to double check.

Yes, both sides are milked out! Right side is all tissue.

That photo is of her milked out. The left collapses nicely but the right is all tissue. The milk on the stand is because she’s a ff and had happy feet in my pale.

mmmm. It doesn't really look milk out all the way. I bet the kids have just fed on one side a little too much.

Sounds like the udder passed on and she has an uneven meaty udder then.

I’ve had a doe with meaty udder before. Her udder before she kidded looked HUGE! I was so excited to milk her to see how much she produced. She kidded buck/doe twins and when it was time to separate kids and milk her I was so disappointed! I’d milk and milk and milk but she barely gave anything. The udder wasn’t hard like with mastitis, it just felt “meaty”. It looked like there was plenty more milk to be had but nope- just tissue. I ended up selling her and her kids to a friend as pet/brusheaters. It was a shame too because the little girl was the sweetest thing with bright blue eyes and the boy had moon spots and loved to cuddle. But I didn’t want that udder being passed down in my herd.
