Low temp and no poop! Help!

1730 Views 34 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  happybleats
Please help, my wether has a temp of 100.4, not eating, not popping, lethargic and seems to be in extreme discomfort. So far, I have given him B complex (2 cc), 1 dose of power punch and taken him up to the porch to put heat on him. We also gave him an enema of oil and water to get him pooping. What else can I do?

I would be getting C&D Antitoxin into him.
CD antitoxin if you have it or MOM (milk of magnesia) this will bind the toxins in his stomach, since his ruminan is having problems.

Warm electrolytes, if he doesn't drink it, drench him. Very important to keep him hydrated. Probiotics, thiamine and vit B-12. No feed until temp is back up, just hay and greens.

I'm no expert, so hopefully someone else will chime in... This is just what I would start with.
Best Wishes for you and your little buddy:)
I'm praying for you and your wether!
Temp is up to 102 but he is still so uncomfortable. I think I will keep him close to the house tonight and check on him in the morning. Thank you so much for your help, I'm just a worried Mommy.
all great advice...its best to assume toxcity when the temp runs low...giving the cd antitoxin or MOM will help him as well as probiotics....best wishes
I've been checking on him every few hours tonight. Still so worried. I got MoM in him last night and will drive to get the C&D Antitoxin's in a few hours. I do have som yogurt, it's worth a try if he will eat it. I'm so new to goats, this is my first scare and I'm reading all the previous threads trying to find similar cases to my poor little Whitlow. One a good note, I did get a little poop from him.

Additional question though, I read about someone doing a pinch test to check for dehydration on a previous thread. How do I do that?

Thank you, that may be our best solution, he is such a goofy, happy boy.

Shaking again and low temp. I'm thinking of taking him in. I've been giving him probio's this morning and gave him C&D Antitoxin. He barely pooped 8 berries last night and there was some green fluid mixed in. Could that be urine?
Oh, poor little guy....I agree!! Time to seek a vet....

CD antitoxin will help protect him until you get this figured out, keep him warm...

Nothing can be done until Monday :-( As of right this minute, he is eating again. I'm staying with him all day though. Thank you all for encouragement and your experience.

Thank you, I am doing exactly what you are saying. Unfortunately Whitlow is getting tired of being a pin cushion. He has started jumping when I stick him and caused himself to bleed. He looks like he just got back from combat. I guess there is a reason they are called "kids." Lol.
It is hard to keep poking them, but we just remember its for their own good , and when it's over, they forgive us ;)
We got good temps for the last several hours, we decided to let him sleep with his herd. Nervous and hopeful, we'll see!
just check on him before you go to bed to be sure he is stable...: ) best wishes
