Lump under chin

950 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
I just got 2 Nigerian dwarf/Pygmy cross kids. They are 8 months old. I just discovered they both have a lump under their chins. I have a picture of the male, his is larger. Any thoughts. Terrified it’s CL. I did deworm them with Dectomax and they do t have any other problems that I know of.

I would have a vet check that.

Could be a goiter from an iodine deficiency

Being 8 months old could be anything.
Honestly a vet would be the best bet.

Is it soft or hard? The vet can shave the area and stick a sterile needle in it, if it is soft, to see what is in there.
If it is hard, you should wait until it is ripe and soft.

Not a typical place for CL.

I’m a vet tech and my vet doesn’t recommend poking it yet in case it is infectious it could spread. It is just peculiar that both have it.
If it is ripe, a culture needs to be collected to figure out what it is.
If it pops on its own, you cannot control it, especially if it is something bad, it would expose even more goats and the ground.
