Merging Households pt 2 - Feeding

697 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ksalvagno
Good morning. I"ll be acquiring 2 Nubian wethers on Saturday from 2 different farms. Both are about 3.5 months old, but they are eating totally different things... I was wanting advice on how to best blend their diets to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Goat #1 is getting medicated grower pellets and coastal hay (alfalfa occasionally).
Goat #2 is getting alfalfa pellets and alfalfa hay.
Both were recently weaned.

My plan was to give them alfalfa pellets and coastal hay, eventually and gradually letting them go out to pasture. Goat #1 is coming with a small bag of his grower pellets. Should I hand feed him a little of that for like a week? I'd hate to mix it into Goat #2 food only to take it back out. Unless a baby wether should be on grower pellets for the first year (?) They'll also get free-choice mineral.

Advice appreciated!

Edit to Add: I know after they're grown they won't need that much grain/alfalfa. I'd give them a grass/alfalfa hay mix and pasture. With minerals, of course.

@ksalvagno, @NigerianDwarfOwner707 Maybe one of these members can help you.

All I would say is use the food they come with to transition them slowly onto what you will be feeding.
Feed them separately as you slowly transition them.
