Milking a doe with one kid

Hi everyone! My doe only has one kid drinking off of her right now, she’s 3 days old. Her udder is so full, is it ok to milk once a day to relieve that pressure? Also I don’t want her milk supply to drop by just have one kid since we plan to start milking at 2 weeks old once a day. How do you guys go about doing this when your doe has one kid and you want to protect that udder as well as get milk?

You could milk her twice a day. If you don't, she will lose capacity.
I milk all my does from day one. If they have kids on them, I milk the excess twice daily. At 2 weeks I separate and milk in the morning then return to kids. I usually don't have to milk the excess in the evening when I start separating (but with a single you may need to) however I still bring them up and make sure.

Oh awesome! So when you say excess what exactly do you mean? Do you let the kids eat first and make sure they are fed before you milk each time?

That’s what I was thinking! I don’t want her lose that milk supply! We’ve waited a long time for this
Milk to take the pressure off.
Teach the kid there are 2 sides, when the kid gets older, the kid will then go back and forth. Keep an eye on her udder and milk as needed.
