I was just wondering how many of you choose the registered name for your own kids or do you let the buyers name them? I think naming them yourself is the fun part

I do both. If I have a deposit on a young kid I will let the buyer name it. I find I don't get as attatched if I'm not doing the naming and it's easier on me when they go to their new homes. Sometimes a name will just fit and I will name the kid and cross my fingers that I don't become attatched. :)

I'm going to be naming all the kids born on our farm. First because I love naming animals, and second because some people might choose creepy names, and I don't want those associated with our farm. ;)

I agree that it's a good way to prevent your kids from getting strange names. I think it's also easier to remember the kid in the future if you named it yourself.
  5. If the animal wont be registered I let buyer choose the name.
If for a registered goat I generally choose the name but also will offer people a choice if reserved and I agree to the name.

I name most of my registered kids. I have in certain circumstances let a few buyers name their kids, but I like to do it myself...have it filled out on the registration applications when I give the buyer their papers. I get kinda picky about registration names...especially bucklings.

We let the buyers name the kids. I always love naming my new goaties, so I figure other people do too :D

I do both. I have SET themes for each doe and the buyer MUST name in the theme. If they dont choose a name then I will do it but if the buyer is paying that much I think they deserve to name the kid.

This will be my first year to sell registered so this is good to see how everyone else does it. Last year I bought a doeling that I got to name and that was really nice. I stuck to the theme that had chosen, and thought I would do the same but.. I agree with the point though that I wouldn't want a weird name associated with my farm name either on my future kids. I like the idea if they are reserved and purchased young than we will agree to a name otherwise I will name them before they leave.

I usually name all of our kids.

It's SOOOO much fun to name them, don't you guys think?? I also have "themes" that I try to stick to, but sometimes I don't do that, because the name doesn't seem to fit them or they just don't look right for it.
For example, I have a Doe named Sygnus, (I know, it's not spelled right) and her daughter from last year, Star. This year, I'm trying to name the kids from them after thing like night, the moon, stars, anything that is the "theme."

I always name them myself, and if I register them, I do it before they can change their names lol
I'm a bit greedy, especially when the babies are carrying the Davy Hollow name :D :D
Most of my kids get named at birth, or soon thereafter. :D

I let the new buyers name them, but will put my buck initials ahead to track or ask that they follow a theme.
I know I like to name my babies, and really think everyone should be able to name their own kids.

I just bought 4 kids from 3 different breeders and they all let me name them myself. One asked that I name the doeling something Japanese because the dam's name is Japanese and she put the bucks initials in there. The other 2 didn't have a preference. I love naming animals and would have been sad if I spent that much money and didn't get to name it. I could see wanting to approve the name though. Here's what I named them:

Lil Hooters LB Katsumi (means victorious beauty)
    Tiny Starz Clay Walker
Gotta B Kid N Live Laugh Love
Gotta B Kid N Sweet Sun Angel

I haven't sent in the registration apps on 3 of them (picking the last 2 up tomorrow) and the breeder registered Katsumi for me. Hopefully the names are available. I searched Katsumi and Clay walker and nothing came up. I don't think I searched the other 2...better do that lol.

Since is rare that I sell registered goats, I give them nicknames and let the buyers pick their "real"name. Last year peanut kept his name but tweek got renamed to jacob. If my herd name isn't on it,i let the buyer choose. If and when I do manage to sell registered stock, I will let tjew buyer choose an approved name.
