ND buckling, 12 weeks old has diarrhea

297 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
We adopted our buckling and he has had off stools since the day we got him. Treated him for coccidiosis. Stools started to form better. Then yesterday EXPLOSIVE diarrhea. He drinks fine, grazes fine, appetite is good, and playful. Administered Amproleum, B12, Safeguard dewormer. Per the breeder we got him from. Now she’s not answering my calls. We have had him for 2 weeks today. Any suggestions ?

Have a fecal done. What color poop? Scours can be parasites, coccidia, dietary, intestinal damage from past coccidia..a fecal is good place to start. I would also give him Tummy Tamer 2 times a day
Tummy Tamer
1 teaspoon each
Cayenne pepper
Ginger
Cinnamon
Slippery elm
Clove
ACV
Molasses
20to30 cc water..blend smooth with a fresh raw garlic clove. If dose is too much..split it in half and dose 4 x a day.

What are you feeding him? Amount, frequency and any changes in diet including pasture? What is his temperature?

He feeds on Dumor Sheep and Goat DX medicated, Him and his 2 unrelated brothers get 16 oz a day and alfalfa hay on top of grazing. My husband said that he had normal stools in the am! So weird that it just happened. Thank you for your help !!

I would still have a fecal run on him. He is at the age where cocci and worms can become a serious issue. Make sure you have a great goat loose mineral available for him as well. If you are running sheep with him - he needs copper which is a problem for sheep . Medicated feed will not prevent problems in most cases.

He may of ate too much of one thing or the other.

However, it would be wise to get a fecal for worms and cocci to be sure. ;)
