Need your help again, on berries !

Hi there, firstly hope you are all well.
This might seem a daft question, but my Pygmy goats berries are very soft, and when I go to clean them out in morning, the trampled berries are crumbly and dust when sweep up, is this normal. It’s winter here in UK. They seem happy and healthy, only get small amount of grain, with garlic, and loose minerals and good hay, access to pasture, but it’s mostly wet now, not noticed the very softness last winter. Thank you

If it is wetter, then that is normal. You could always give them probiotics for a week.

I would start with probiotics as well.

I agree with probiotics, and I would add electrolytes in their drinking water. Dry poop can be dehydration, since its colder & they drink less water than in warmer weather.

I noticed with my goats that when it is wet weather, the berries take longer to dry. Are their poops individual pellets or clumped together? If they don’t have clumpy poop, and you find after giving probiotics there is no difference, it could just be that.

Occasional slight clumping, but mostly individual berries, will it be ok to try probiotic , even if it’s just the weather, or as someone said, due to dyhdration, I give warm water, which seems to make them drink more. Thank you , is probiotics safe then, even if they not need it

Hi Dee4, hope all is well for you and yours and that you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving.

Yes, probiotics would be okay to give under any circumstances. Think of probiotics as Goat Activia (human probiotic yogurt). Gosh, your goats favor warm water also? Mine also drink warm water in the cooler months much better than the cold water. I use more electrolyte water during the winter than I do in the summer. The goats just plain won't drink as much water during the cooler months, and on the days the bucket level hasn't gone down as much as I prefer, out comes some warm electrolyte water buckets. Mine are wethers and water consumption is important for urinary health. Umm, knowing these boys, it could be an elaborate scheme to be thirsty just to get flavored water. ;)
