Hi. I'm new to goats. Well always loved them and goat chevre is really the one food I would choose to sustain life, if it came to that. I have three nigerian dwarfs; 1 wether and 2 does. For better of worse, I'm the type to jump right into things- hit the ground running... Which leads me to my current situation. I have just adopted an new 4 year old ND doe. She is very sweet-currently milking and possibly pregnant. Her previous owner said that their buck got into the pasture on June 18. She also told me she has not noticed any subsequent heat cycles. All of which is new to me... Her due date would then be the end of Dec, meaning I should dry her off by the end of Sept. Is there a way to know that she is really pregnant? I don't want to dry her off if she's not. Any thoughts would be so helpful. Thank you....

    Welcome from North Idaho

What part of Washington are you in???

If you really wanted to be certain, you could draw blood from your doe and send it into www.biotracking.com It is 7.50 for the test and they are really good. If you mail the blood on Monday, you have results on Friday :)

Can't wait to see pictures of all your goaties!

    (I raise ND also!)

welcome from Northern Ca......so happy you are here....

We do pooch tests here...as long as you think your doe is 2 months or longer preggo ...if you take a pic of her pooch...which is her rear end area ...with her tail up and it is showing her vulva and anal area...we can determine... if she is preggo or not....make sure it is a clear shot and close enough but not blurry ...for review....

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. Goat people are so lovely. I'm in Olympia, Wa, just outside city limits. We have a 4 acre "homestead". I will post pics tomorrow. Spent the day building a new milk stand.

Hello! I live in NW Oregon, nice to see someone close by (well, somewhat). I'm not so good at the pooch test, so I will let someone else try that.

Where did you get your doe from? She looks kind of like one I saw in a CraigsList ad. Congrats on your new arrivals!!
