We just purchased this goat on January 14th. Her hooves were grown over her pads, so we trimmed those. She has a swollen vulva that the seller said 'just put blue cote on it',

as the vet told her there was nothing wrong. Being new to goat raising, we tried that and saw no improvement. We took her to the vet Jan. 24th...and they gave her a shot of Excede and Animax Ointment for the vulva and Ascend Silver Sulfadiazine Cream for surrounding area for urine burns? Her tail looks pretty bad too...The vet didn't say what it was, because they didn't know. We also found out that she is pregnant on top of all this. I don't think she's in the best condition for a kid. She's a sweet goat, and we just don't know what to do to help her. Anyone have any suggestions?

I’d do an herbal healing salve for the wound. Something with comfrey, plantain, yarrow, other healing herbs in it. Fir meadow has one I believe called wounderful.
as far as the pregnancy, do you know how far along? What is she being fed currently? How old is she?
Minerals are super important, especially if you are in a selenium deficient area. I personally like free choice minerals, which is 19 different minerals that you leave out for them to pick and choose. But everyone has their own preferences.
If you have access to alfalfa hay, that is good too. Or alfalfa mix.
is she thin? She should get some grain either way, but exactly what depends on her condition. Sunflower seeds are good if she’s underweight. I feed a mix of oats and peas to my does in good condition. Others feed pre mixed feed.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will try the healing salve. We have alfalfa hay, alfalfa/grass mix and grass hay, Manna Pro, and redmond mix minerals for her. I think she is picking up weight just since we've had her. I GUESS she is due in March. We have been giving her some grain (it has clean oats, rolled corn, barley, austrian peas, goat pellets and sunflower seeds with molasses (I mixed it all together)...not sure if it's the best mix, but I thought it would be good. I thought it was getting better, but this morning it looks more inflamed again, as the photos show. :(

I think she's just a yearling, but I haven't any papers on her yet.

Preparation h can be used for the swelling.

Clean up the tail by trimming off the stuck on stuff and wash the area well to get all that off there.

Gently clean her vulva.
Use a gentle soap, rinse well. Pat her dry. Then put preparation h on the area. Put blue spray in her tail if it has sores

The discharge build up on her tail, when she wags it downward, may be what is irritating her vulva and the build up of her tail is irritating the tail.

I agree with her diet above, she needs alfalfa.

I would get a fecal for worms and cocci
right away, to see where she is at.

How far along is she?

It sounds like you are doing a good job feeding her as long as she is getting some of the alfalfa you have. And it’s great that’s she gaining some weight!
I typically feed 1.5# grain a day for my standard size yearlings that are pregnant, starting about 2 months from due date. But if thin I’d do it a lot sooner. Mine is just in excellent condition already. Your mix sounds good although I personally don’t use corn as it doesn’t have much nutrition.
I feed free choice hay.

Can you get a side picture of your whole goat? Her condition can be better assessed that way.
Someone will probably ask for her famacha score, there are lots of posts and utube videos about getting that, you will need to roll her eyelid. A picture of that may help, too.
And welcome to TGS, these people are the best.
And an extra pat on your back for helping this goat out, it looks like she needed someone!

Thank you for the suggestions. I am headed out again to see if I can get her cleaned up better. I think she is due March. The previous owner said she'd been with a buck all of October. It is so cold here, and although I think her overall health is getting better, I really want to see that vulva area better.

I give her grain while doctoring her, but if you think she needs more, I am happy to give more. She gets free choice of hay. She's defintely getting all she wants to eat. We can't put her in with the other goats, because they are too mean to her. She doesn't seem to mind as long as she can be by them or follow us around when we are outside. Thank you again!

Looks like maybe she has an infection and that's what's causing discharge? Or is hwe actual Vagina injured? Maybe you wiped it down you could tell more about it. So sorry she's having problems, but it sounds as tho your doing great. Keep up the good work!

Also, shaving her tail would help if she Is to continue having discharge so it won't build up in the hair on her tail.
I am in the process of cleaning her tail...wish I see the underneath of her tail sooner. :( I think I'd be better off shaving it, but it is so cold here...I think her tail is infected too...I wonder why the vet didn't see this. I do think it may be the tail affecting the vulva now. ...ugh...I am no nurse and I feel so bad for her...TT

Thank you all for all the tips! We just started with goats last April, so we have been reading and gleaning all we can about what is best for them. It is amazing how much can change in less than a year. Now, with this little first time mother to be, I was a little overwhelmed, so I joined this forum. Thank each of you who responded with help for our little first time momma to be. She is full Nubian, but she looks smaller than a mini Nubian we have. Here is a few photos of her complete ...and of the doctoring we did for today so far. She was a little trooper, but her little tail doesn't have much hair on it now. :( Hoping and praying tomorrow it will look better. Thanks again! ~cindy

Welcome to the goat forum. How's her temp? And yes her famacha? I may have missed it but does she have access ess to a quality loose mineral?
Her back end sure looks painful. But looks some better now that's its clean. Boy she's lucky to land in your lap. Definitely want that healed before she kids.
What are you applying on it. I wouldn't do Blu kite for this.

She does have access to loose mineral. She is super tender today...I'm sure all the 'doctoring' of yesterday didn't help that. It was just the vulva area that was being treated, now her little tail hurts too. Could be it was so full of dung and frozen maybe too, that she didn't notice it much...I washed her with comfrey water this morning, put the animax ointment on the vulva area and sprayed just the tail with blue kote. I also tried to put some corona ointment on ...but seems like she just pees everything right off. :S 🤦‍♀️ Other than that back end, she runs, eats, and seems content and healthy. I did buy 'The Complete Herbal Handbook For Farm and Stable'. If anyone has any other good natural books in raising goats to recomment, I'd like to know. Thank you for your reply.
