Hi I'm a new member and new to the goat world. I sure love the animal they are pretty neat. Wished I would have gotten them a lot earlier on but I guess I'm not to old yet to stop learning. I am building a Boer goat herd. SoI am going to need lots of advice!. First off Can you leave a buck with does all year around or are they only put together during breeding season? thanks

 Welcome to TGS!!! :stars: I watch my nigerian does and when they look like they are in heat I put them in with a buck for the rest of the day. In doing this I can now the exact due date and be able to be there when they kid in case there are problems.

Welcome! Hope you enjoy it here

Goats are very addictitive.....and I'm sure that others will give you lots of advice on the health and happiness of a beginning herd.
I personally prefer knowing due dates so my bucks are housed separately from my does, less worry and I can be with my does when they deliver.

Welcome!! Glad to have ya here! You'll love it! You can leave your buck with your does, but he will breed the does at different times and you can't be sure when they're due. You might end up with middle of winter kids, which is no fun unless you have a nice big warm barn to keep the kids in. I keep all my bucks seperate and after some practice you can tell which girls are in season, you then put them in w/ the buck, etc. So personally I would leave the girls and boys seperate.

welcome....Sabine... ....glad to have you with us came to the right place.. to ask questions ...we are so happy help with that.......I am a boer breeder as well.. :D ..glad to see another boer breeder here.........

with my bucks ...I have them in with my does for probably 3 heat cycles (3 months then pull them out) Make sure you don't ...have any doelings 11 months old or younger.. in with the bucks....they will breed to young....we wait until... they are 1 year at minimum to breed ours....we have been known to breed them at 1 year and a half though that is usually our average..... other than can keep the buck with the does... if you like....up til 1 month prior to kidding, or when the bucks start chasing the does........when they get closer to kidding time...the does seem to get ..the smell that attracts the bucks and they get mixed signals... that they may be coming into heat.....the does cannot be stressed...hope this helps....
