    Hi my name is Becky, I am fairly new to raising goats, we live on 1 1/2 acres, in Oregon & have 7 goats at this time, 2 doe's (1 boer & 1 saanen/alpine/nubian mix both 2 years),2 bucks(1 boer & 1 kiko both2 years),2 wethers( boer, 1 year),1 baby buck(kiko & saanen/alpine/nubian mix (2weeks old)..
Enjoying the time sent with our small herd, & finding a few challenges...
I hope to get to know others who raise goats as well & to possibly gain some information ..

Thanks, I've been looking into copper bolsing my goats, & salinium(sp) deficiency in goats, & types of workers. Which kind is best to use for pregnant goats

First get fecal tests done to see what kind of parasites you are dealing with, and go from there. What are you currently giving for minerals?

I apologize for the length of time it has taken me to get back on,
Fecal test hasn't been done yet, but plan to soon...
Minerals & Vitamins we are giving....
Purina goat chow mineral >free choice
    Selenium &vitamin E gel > 5 ml every 3 months
    Prohibitive+ paste > 5 ml every 3 months

Our boer doe did have miscarriage, she gave birth to still born on the 7th breech, it had be dead a while... no more discharge, behavior normal, temp 103.0. Eating regularly
    Given penicillin G. Procaine
Looking at possibility of a goat wormer being the cause...being given at wrong time & wrong type.... Thanks

Welcome, which side of the Cascades are you on?
Each area comes with it's own challenges. If you are near me I can help you with good goat veterinarians, minerals needed, and common problems of the area.

Cool, let me know when you need a LaMancha lol
You must be near the intentional community over there. I'm below Salem.
So, liver fluke, brown stomach worm, thread worm, and coccidia are natural problems. Barber pole can be brought in by a carrier goat host.
Valley hay is deficient in copper, selenium, l- lysign, cobalt, and often lower in quality and general nutrients compared to eastern Oregon hay.
I mix my own grain rations, provide Purina wind and rain storm minerals, cobalt block, and selenium block. I use Replamin plus and copper bolus two or three times a year.
I no longer breed any animals that need huge amounts of extra supplemental minerals and have been able to start slowly cutting down on some things.
