We have a doe who is not going to be bred this year (maybe never) and I want to turn her into a pack goat. I was looking at pack goat supplies and I am wondering, "What the heck is a saddle? A pannier? Huh?" so I was wondering if some of you more experienced goaters could tell me what I need and what it's for. Thanks.

The saddle is what the goat wears to carry the load. Just like a horse's saddle , only the goat's saddle is designed to carry supplies instead of people. The panniers ( that's just a fancy word for bags) are what hang over the saddle to put the supplies, equipment etc. in. Packing with goats is a lot of fun and you should try it.

you'll need both AND a pad to put under the saddle to prevent chafing and soreness.

OK, thanks! Anything else I'll need? Any major tips on pack goat training? I am really eager to try this, it sounds really fun!

best thing for you would be to read through this sub-forum first and then ask anything you haven't found an answer for :)
