Butcher when not in rut. Meat will not be as good as a young goat, but you can be creative with recipes. I would finish him out well before butchering.
Nubian butchering?
So I'm wanting to butcher my 2 year old male nubian. I got a new male that I think would be better for breeding next year since he is part of the does breed and a nice color (at least to me)
Would he be too old to butcher though? If so would fall be better to butcher or spring?

Finishing out is with special feed like with pigs right? First time with goats. When are they not in rut? My girls I'm pretty sure he at least bred one in June, not sure about the other one. If you keep your buck with does in heat, he will be in rut. He STINKS, pees on his face, etc. If you girls are bred, he should not be in full rut. Not special feed, but a good balanced grain to give him some cover before butchering.
Gotcha. Yea he was doing that in June but not anymore. Thank you so much for the information.
