Disbudding is a quick way to ensure that the goat may have a better life. A few seconds of pain and it's over. For me, it's harder on me than the kid!
I honestly would take them to a vet and have them checked. They may be able to give you a close age for them as well. get a fecal for worms and cocci, as we do not know the age of them. Those tags are awful and way too big for any animal, other than a full grown cow.
Cute ears, lol. Love the ones black dorsal. Will be cool to see them grow up. Hope they stay healthy and grow well. I bet they will love having those tags off, ugg, look so annoying.
We tried to take tags off the alpine looking one - while in the disbudding box - but the wire cutters wouldn't cut them! The metal part says NYS. Wonder if we just cut the auction (yellow) tag off. We had them out running around today for an hour or two I'm keeping a close eye on them. What age can we actually worm them. We got them 7th February, and as I said judging by cords, maybe a couple of days to two weeks at the most for the bigger one. Already have noticed a difference since we got them. I gave them antibiotics the day after we got them home. I figure Maybe October I will run CAE/CL/ panel on them.
Already starting on the cocci prevention . Doing as I would and have done with babies from our own moms .
Try to get something else that will cut through the metal wire. You wouldn't want to just remove the tag and leave the wire, it may catch on things and rip the ear.
The disbudding kills all the nerve endings. The kids don't seem to notice the burned horn area within a day. Unfortunately, any ADGA goats anyone wants to show, have to be disbudded, as well as 4-H. There are pros and cons to everything. We just try to do the best we can with minimal pain to the goat. Each goat owner has to decide if they can successfully have horned animals.
Find every little hole or crevice you find and block it. Go hide somewhere and watch, they will tell you where they are coming out. They are adorable.
We just need to put some chicken wire around the cattle panels till they get too big to squeeze through. She thinks we are around - out she pops and runs up with the dogs. I can't even get up for a drink of water at night, without them pushing the chairs away and popping out thinking its bottle time! I think I got to make some room in one of the sheds, time for them to be out of the living room. Especially since we had a surprise delivery of one of our alpine does of two pure black bucklings! I just hope and pray that when they are old enough to blood test - all is clear.
Okay, so the tags in their ears, are the metal pieces marked with numbers and letters like the yellow part? If so you can cut off the yellow and leave the metal. I'm pretty sure the yellow is their Auction number.
