My husband had an idea for the 'ideal' goat feeder, so he designed and built it.

Our requirements were:
  • On "our" side of the fence so we don't get jumped on or have to struggle with the goats while trying to feed them
  • A cover food is totally out of the weather
  • Not so covered that the alphas camp out and guard the food from the littles
  • Able to fit a full bale of hay
  • Screen cover to reduce waste and require them to work a little
  • A trough for chaffhaye/grain/food that is on a pivot
  • As sturdy as possible
It's been 2 weeks he's already made a few tweaks by adding a lip in front of the hay screen to catch some of the fallout. Reinforced the trough because out troublemaker likes to put all 4 feet in it and walk around.

We still have a lot of fallout but they are goats and that is pretty inevitable.

I love it!! When we build the shelter for ours, I had my husband make a "window" on the fence side where we could dump feed in their troughs without going into the pen and getting attacked by hungry goats LOL. It's worked out SO nice, esp if we have people come feed for us.
