Pellets sticking together

449 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ksalvagno
I notice this evening while feeding that I have 2 maybe 3 goats that pellets are sticking together. If you move them around you can separate them but they aren’t falling loose like they should. They aren’t clumping like meadows has been doing but are sticking together. Does this make sense??? It been a long day as we have been moving some round bales of hay. Hay is going out the roof and some say you may not be able to get it around here come September/ October. I have moved 18 bales out of a field 20 miles from me and the field had probably 350-400 bales in it when I started loading my first bales.” and by my third load, There’s not a bale left. Some guy came along and offered more money and bought every bale for $10 a bale more than I was paying. I did get 18 bales but need 30 more. Oh well , I’ll keep looking.

Has it been hot where you are?
Very hot, heat index at 108 f for 2-3 days. High temp reached 100 f , heat advisory out again for today.
Mine have done that a couple times. I get more worried when it looks like dog poo, which thankfully is even more rare.
You really have to consider heat. Do you have electrolyte water and plain water out for them?

Just plain water, I have regular size bath tubs that are refilled daily until they run over some to add new freshness. Clean all tubs and troughs every Saturday. Could I put out a smaller pale or tub? I’ll have to get some electrolytes.

I give my girls the electrolytes on extreme weather days or when things are going on and I want them to drink more. I use the Manna Pro Goat Electrolyte and they love it. I do luke warm/cool in the heat and give them cool water, so they have a choice to drink from. It's just what, 1/4 full of small bucket and it's usually gone when I go out in an hour or two.
Put out 5 gallon buckets. I always just bought horse electrolyte by Farnam. Comes in apple, orange and cherry flavor. I put one scoop of electrolyte in the 5 gallon bucket then fill up the bucket with water.
