Has anyone used Phos-Aid. What is the dosage for a goat. If given a 2nd time, how long between shots?

Also, I have injectable Vitamins A&D. It has 500,000 IU Vitamin A & 75,000 IU Vitamin D3 in each ML. Bottle does not list dosages by weight. It just has dosages for mature cows, yearling cows, & calves. What is the recommended dosage for a goat?

Also, vet suggested I repeat the Vitamin A&D several times, but I am leary of using enough to be toxic. Does anyone know how often, or how many times I can give this shot.

Vet diagnosed "Bent Leg," & suggested the Phos-Aid & Vitamins A&D to treat it. However, he has no experience with this, so hopefully someone who has worked with this treatment before can offer some suggestions.

Bent leg as in rickets? If so then A&D will help or cod liver oil if you prefer no shots. Rickets is caused by low vit D. Not sure why he suggest phos-aid. Phosphorus injectable is used with cattle on poor phos Graze. Low phos can lead to weak bones but at this point I don't think I would give it.

Cod liver oil

Cod Liver Oil contains high amounts of vitamin A, Vitamin D, and certain enzymes. It cures and prevents contracted tendons, rickets, and muscle cramping…

dose twice daily for 3 days then twice a week for 2 weeks

Cod liver dose is 0.1 cc per 2.2 pounds

Bent Leg is layman's term for Epiphysitis, which is a bone condition caused by an imbalance of calcium & phosphorus. This is usually seen in kids that grow too fast, are bred too young, or in this case first fresheners that carry multiple kids & then go on to produce very high amounts of milk. The goat feed must be adjusted to resolve this issue long term.
Phos-Aid is an injectable phosphorus that is given once or twice to get a surge of phosphorus into the goat to get them back on track so the changed diet can work. Since phosphorus & calcium require Vitamin D3 to get used, treatment is a couple of Phos-Aid injections along with injections of Vitamins A&D3.
Sometimes this condition is also accompanied by Ricketts, so it is beneficial to continue the Vitamin A &D3 shots longer than the Phos-Aid injections.

awe so your little one in knobbed knee not bull legged.

"Epiphysitis starts with lateral or medial bowing of one or both radii. Later changes may consist of lateral deviation of the digits on the fore- or hindfeet; lameness and reluctance to walk; an arched back; and soft swelling and pain in the carpal, metacarpophalangeal, tarsal, and metatarsophalangeal joints."

Treatment is Vit D and phosphorus. thinking out loud :bookgoat:.... I wonder if CMPK would be a good source of phos. or would the calcium in it continue the imbalance?

This dose for cod liver oil is for any age or size. For large goats the A&D injection maybe a better choice however.
