Pre-Kidding question (very close)

512 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Goats Rock
My NDG Pearl is close to kidding, she will be 145 days on the 31st. This morning I went in to check on her I felt her belly. This time was different, I felt a hard knot right in the center of her right side. I thought the babies are typically closer to the under side near the udder.

Is this normal? This is my first kidding so everything is new to me. I did not feel any movement, just a hard knot.

I feel like touching a does belly is not an accurate way to tell if she is close. I have felt babies in the center of the right side many times. It is because the rumen is on the left side that you probably feel the kids on the right side.

I meant in terms of her being close in a matter of days, not relying on belly touching by any means. The knot on the middle of her left side is what I was trying to determine is normal.

I would not worry about it unless it's still there after she kids. ;) when they're late term, the kid (s) are jammed in there pretty tightly. You will feel/see them in all kinds of places.

Thank you for the responses. I am just a first time worrywort. We did a sonogram after 35 days and it showed two fetuses. But..... I haven't been able to feel any physical movement on her right side and we even used a baby doppler to detect heart beats on her today to no avail today. But that little knot gives me hope.
Wish us well.

I would not worry! She probably just has some very calm, relaxed kids in there. I am often unable to feel kicking or kid movement. Happy kidding!

They are probably getting into birthing position- one drops down and the other sort of stays above on the right. When labor starts, they get
smushed down to be shoved out.
